28 Aug Accrington XMAS Factor set to dazzle crowds at Scouts family fun day at Oswaldtwistle Mills this Saturday
Oswaldtwistle Mills will be the heart of the action this Saturday, as it hosts the eagerly anticipated St Paul’s Scouts Family Fun Day, featuring the brand-new Accrington Xmas Factor singing competition.
Running from 10am to 4pm, the free-to-attend event promises a full day of family entertainment, fundraising, and exciting live performances.
The day will be officially opened by the Mayor of Hyndburn at 10am, kicking off a packed schedule of activities designed for all ages.
Visitors can look forward to a jam-packed day of entertainment and activities, including face painting, bouncy castles, games, a BBQ, and a wide variety of stalls. From impressive chainsaw carving demonstrations and willow weaving to craft and toy stalls, there’s something for everyone.
Community groups such as the Air Cadets, Sea Cadets, Royal British Legion, veteran bikers, East Lancs Hospice, Hyndburn Helpers and many other local charities will also be in attendance, running tombolas, games, and fundraising activities. Every part of the day helps raise vital funds for St Paul’s Scouts, supporting their ongoing work with young people in the community.
Taking centre stage from 12pm to 3pm, the Accrington Xmas Factor is the newest addition to the event and will showcase emerging musical talent from across the region. Contestants include rising stars like 11-year-olds Matilda Bibby and Lenny Hayes, as well as local band Zoltar, fresh from an appearance at the prestigious Great British Rhythm & Blues Festival in Colne. The competition will be held on a stage provided by Earl Transport.
The winner will go on to perform in front of over 10,000 people at the #AmazingAccrington Christmas Light Switch On, on Thursday 27th November, supporting the main headline act. The runner-up will earn a slot on the main stage at the Great Harwood Christmas Extravaganza on Saturday 13th December.
A judging panel made up of local leaders and event supporters will decide the winner on the day.
Nick Pitman said: “We are incredibly proud to be hosting this fantastic community event once again. The Family Fun Day brings people together for a great cause, and with the addition of the Accrington Xmas Factor, we’re expecting this year’s celebration to be the biggest and best yet.”
Mick Shackleton added: “This is one of the most enjoyable and meaningful events in our calendar. It’s a brilliant day out for the whole family, and every pound raised helps us continue our work with young people across the community. We’re really excited to welcome everyone this Saturday.”
Murray Dawson, Chair of #AmazingAccrington and Managing Director of Scott Dawson Advertising, said: “We’re thrilled to see the launch of the Accrington Xmas Factor at such a brilliant community event. It’s fantastic that the winners will go on to perform at two of our biggest Christmas celebrations later this year. It’s a great platform for young talent and a real boost for the local events calendar.”
Eddy O’Brien, CEO of iMEP, said: “We’re really excited to be supporting this event with sound and lighting. Giving young performers the experience of performing on a stage with a quality setup makes a huge difference, and helps them shine. We can’t wait to see the talent on show.”
